Coaches' Corner: Molly

Up2Us Sports coaches are leaders in the field of sports-based youth development (SBYD), but they often don't receive the recognition they deserve. Coaches' Corner is our way to show our appreciation for our incredible coaches who make positive change in their communities every day!

This month, which is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we spoke with Molly Cox, an Up2Us Sports coach at Soccer Without Borders in Baltimore.

My proudest moments as a coach are when my students ask for advice on personal issues. Refugee youth face challenges many kids in the United States don’t understand. As third culture kids, my students straddle the cultures of their home country and the United States. I understand this challenge since my family is from the Philippines and China. Having an AAPI heritage helps me connect with my students and gain their trust. This is what makes me proud of my work.
